Here are a few things that we like to point out as guidelines for getting the best fit possible for you when looking for new gear.
Getting a proper fit: Jackets: It’s important to remember that you’re not going to be wearing a motorcycle jacket standing up. Different bikes will place you indifferent riding positions. This means that we’ll check to be sure that your jacket runs a little long in the sleeves, offers a little extra room in the shoulders, and will extend down so that when you’re sitting on your bike, there isn’t a gap between the top of your pants and the bottom of the jacket. Gloves: No matter what type of glove you may be considering, or for what type of riding that you do, gloves will affect the quality of your riding comfort. So it’s important to find a pair that fit properly and are snug through the wrist and fingers but that don’t pinch your fingers when in a gripping position. Again, in this case, most of the time, your hands will be in a gripping position rather than open handed. Pants: We carry a variety of pant styles, cuts, and brands, so it’s really important to know what type of riding that you plan on doing: cruising, touring, racing, or just some weekend fun! Regardless of your riding style, it’s important to remember that riding pants will feel different than regular pants. They will be more rigid, some will have reinforced padding, some will have armor, some will breathe well, and some will keep you dry and warm in the rain. Riding pants are purpose built, and for that reason, keep an open mind when trying them on. Typically though, sizing a riding pant can be done similarly to sizing a regular pant. Just keep in mind that most are sized in European sizes. *At the bottom of this page there is a sizing chart that will assist you in converting your US size to Euro sizes. Helmets: Helmets are arguably the most important piece of gear that you’ll ever acquire; so it’s critical that we fit you with the right helmet for the shape and size of your head. Just as not all heads are shaped the same, helmet manufacturers have certain helmets that fit certain shaped heads. So there’s really no such thing as “one size fits all.” We’ll ask you questions about the shape of your head (round, oblong, oval), and we’ll have you try on a variety to find out witch helmet brand is designed for you. Once we accomplish that, then we’ll check for size. When trying on a helmet, it should fit snug all around and your cheeks should be firmly pressed into your face by the cheek pads. It should be snug, but not crushing or uncomfortable. If you can easily move the helmet around on your head, it’s too loose! We’ll also ask you to wear the helmet that you’re interested in for a few minutes to be sure that you don’t develop any uncomfortable pressure points that would interfere with a quality fit. Lastly, keep in mind that the “look” of your helmet should be the least important part of the process. Yes, it is important to get a helmet that you like and that does appeal to you. However, getting one that looks good but fits badly will only lead to discomfort and increased risk of injury in an accident situation.
